Troops at the Fort Gordon army base are preparing for a large deployment to Afghanistan.

About 300 members of the 35th Signal Brigade will head out next week.

That follows another large deployment from Fort Gordon last month, when 400 troops from the 513th Military Intelligence Brigade left for Afghanistan and Iraq.

This year has been the deadliest in Afghanistan since the war there began eight years ago, with 16 troops from Georgia losing their lives since May, according to icasualties.org.

That's more servicemen from Georgia than during the previous seven years.
