DIXON MEMORIAL STATE FOREST, Ga.  —   Oglethorpe Power Corporation is replanting 500 acres of hardwood forest inside the Dixon Memorial State Forest near the Okefenokee Swamp.

The trees burned during a massive wildfire in 2007.

It’s part of a carbon credit agreement.

The deal allows Oglethorpe Power to offset its power plant emissions by claiming title to carbon dioxide removed from the air by the replanted trees for 25 years.
