Atlanta will get 139 more police officers.
The city’s been criticized for not doing enough about crime.
On September 15th, 27 new cops will hit the streets. They will target areas hit by a recent string of carjackings. Data shows crime is down 10% from last year.
But some are calling for more police presence after city councilman Caesar Mitchell was carjacked and boxing champion Vernon Forrest was robbed and shot to death.
In addition, Police Chief Richard Pennington says he will leave his job at the end of the year when Franklin's second term as mayor ends.
