In the latest in our Money Crunch series looking at how the state's budget slump is impacting people across the state, we find out how recent budget cuts will impact Georgia's state parks and historic sites. After lawmakers slashed nearly 40% of its budget, the State Department of Natural Resources is raising fees and cutting services. Twelve percent of employees will lose their jobs, most of those left will be furloughed, five parks will limit access and 12 historic sites will cut operational days. Georgia Gazette's Rickey Bevington recently spoke with site manager David Gomez to see how the cuts will affect the New Echota Historic Site in Calhoun. |
