Chris Brubeck's new genre-bending sextet "Danza del Soul" highlights today's noon hour on GPB Radio. We'll just have to imagine the theatrical staging that starts the first movement: The clarinetist sits all alone on stage and appears to be warming up before the audience is fully settled. Interrupted by offstage violin flourishes, the clarinetist (as directed in the music) looks increasingly annoyed. One can hear the violinist walking on stage and falling into a duet until the cellist comes running out. There follow entrances by the double bass player, the pianist, and finally the out-of-breath page turner.
