Midday Music

Midday Music Playlist for 09/15/2010

Today, world-premiere recordings from two composers. Both were born in Vienna in 1893. Both had at least partly Jewish ancestry. Franz Mittler emigrated to the United States in 1938 and lived till 1970; we hear the Cello Sonata from his teen years back in Vienna. Marcel Tyberg did not make it out of Austria; he died in Auschwitz in 1944. We hear his Third Symphony, which received its world premiere in Buffalo recently after the son of Tyberg's friend who had preserved the manuscript during the war showed it to conductor JoAnn Falletta.
