Legislative Day 7 - January 24, 2012

Today is the 7th Legislative Day of the Georgia General Assembly. House Democrats unveil their legislative agenda in a press conference. Repealing HB 87, Georgia's Immigration Law, was top of their priority list. Opponents to the bill say it has hurt Georgia’s farm industry and the economy.

Ethics Reform Legislation is introduced in the House that would require a cap on Lobbyists’ gifts to legislators. There currently is no limit. House Speaker David Ralston says he's opposed to one. Under current law, all Lobbyists’ gifts must be reported but there is no upper limit.

Continuing our leadership interview series, House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams spoke to us about the rationale behind the Democrats' agenda.

Georgia's unemployment rate is higher than the national average. State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler joined us to discuss that and much more.

Our roundtable of Capitol journalists continued with Tom Crawford of the Georgia Report and Erin Haines of the Associated Press.

You can watch Prime Time Lawmakers every night the Georgia General Assembly is in session at 7pm on Georgia Public Broadcasting. The program re-airs the next morning at 5:30am.
