A bill to establish a new State Department of Public Health passed the Senate today the House then agreed to Senate changes; sending the bill to Governor Deal’s desk for his signature. If signed into law, public health will become elevated to a cabinet-level position.

Tense negotiations continued over tax overhaul bill. The House and Senate decided to postpone tomorrow’s session and consider the measure after the General Assembly returns from spring break. Progress of the bill slowed down after concerns were voiced that middle class taxes would be raised and tax exemptions on charitable donations would be removed.

We also talk education and teacher pay onset with Tim Callahan, the Public Relations and Membership Director of the Professional Association of Georgia Educators – PAGE.
