The House today passed the 18.5 billion dollar amended budget, the bill that adjusts the budget for the current fiscal year based on actual revenue. 163 million dollars of spending was added to the bill. Debate on the budget was interrupted briefly as U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss paid the chamber a visit. Following passage, the FY 2011 amended budget now moves on to the Senate.
Also the Senate passed a measure requiring that municipal court judges be attorneys today. A little levity was introduced when Sen. Bill Heath added an amendment banning lawyers from serving in the General Assembly. He later withdrew the amendment.
Joining us in-studio by Senator Jim Butterworth, Chairman of the Senate Higher Education Committee, and Tracy Ireland, Director of Post-Secondary Student and School Services at the Georgia Student Finance Commission, we will be talking higher education and HOPE.
You can watch Prime Time Lawmakers every night the Georgia General Assembly is in session at 7 pm, and at 5:30 am the following morning.
