Lauretta Hannon is the author of The Cracker Queen—A Memoir of a Jagged, Joyful Life (Gotham Books, April 2009) and a commentator on National Public Radio’s All Things Considered, where her stories reach 25.5 million listeners. Since 2000 she has also been known for her Georgia Public Radio stories, many of which celebrate strong, authentic Southern women (Cracker Queens). Her memoir became a Bestseller among independent booksellers in the Southeast just three weeks after its release.

The book is already receiving praise from literary legends such as Lee Smith and Terry Kay. “I raced through this book—horrified, laughing out loud, and weeping by turns,” says Smith. “I say, let’s throw out all the self-help and inspi-rational books in the country, and put up The Cracker Queen displays instead! Hannon really made me think…”

A 2009 recipient of the Governor's Award in the Humanities, and a 2006 inductee into the Georgia Writers Hall of Fame, Terry Kay has been a sports writer and film/theater reviewer (Atlanta Journal-Constitution), a public relations executive and a corporate officer. He is the author of ten published novels, including The Book of Marie, released in fall of 2007.

His other works include, To Dance with the White Dog, The Valley of Light, Taking Lottie Home, The Kidnapping of Aaron Greene, Shadow Song, The Runaway, Dark Thirty, After Eli and The Year the Lights Came On, as well as a book of essays Special K and a children's book To Whom the Angel Spoke.

Three of his novels have been produced as Hallmark Hall of Fame movies – To Dance with the White Dog, The Runaway and The Valley of Light.

Georgia Public Broadcasting Radio will be taping the event for two special editions of Cover to Cover.
