Help! — the sequel to the Fab Four's fantastically successful film debut A Hard Day's Night— follows the group on a worldwide jaunt around the globe. When a fan sends Ringo an ancient sacrificial ring that becomes stuck on his finger, he is targeted by a group of hilariously obsessed oriental mystics, as well as an ambitious scientist who has his own plans for the ring. On the run, the Beatles are chased from London to the Swiss Alps to the Bahamas, outwitting their pursuers, singing great songs and having a ball. The film, directed by Richard Lester and featuring public television favorite Leo McKern (Rumpole of the Bailey),has recently been remastered and looks and sounds better than ever!
The sound track includes the following Beatles favorites: "Help!," "The Night Before," "From Me To You," "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away," "I Need You," "Another Girl," "Ticket to Ride" and "You're Gonna Lose That Girl."
Looking back on the making of the film, Paul McCartney noted: "Things went a little bit awry, see, we said, 'We've never been to the Bahamas, can you write that in? I've never been skiing, I wonder if you could write in a scene with me skiing?'"
Leonard Maltin's Movie & Video Guide rates this classic film three and a half stars out of four, describing it as a "crazy, funny film ... Lots of wild gags."
