Harmonia

From the sublime sounds of chant, to the joyful exuberance of a Renaissance dance, to the passion of an Italian Baroque violin sonata, the music of the past flows into the present on Harmonia, as players, singers and scholars bring historically informed performances to life for today’s listeners. Produced at WFIU from Indiana University, Harmonia explores music from the Middle Ages to the first part of the 17th century.

Each week, host and early music scholar Angela Mariani brings the increasingly popular music of these earlier periods to life for radio audiences, drawing upon commercial, private and rare archival recordings, as well as interviews with performers and scholars. Angela offers engaging and accessible cultural, social and historical context, along with evocative commentary that illustrates, informs and enlightens.
