Water – Georgia’s water woes have been simmering for years but the severe drought of 2007 has brought them to a boil, especially in the northern part of the state where reservoirs are at all time lows. While the rest of the state has enough water, it has other water issues to deal with such as salt water intrusion into the coastal aquifer and competing interests for water resources in the southwestern counties. There are several plans on the table from water transfers and desalination to conservation and growth limits. Joining us to discuss the issues and solutions are: Dr. Aris Georgakakos, Director of the Georgia Water Resources Institute. He is also a Professor at Georgia Tech’s School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Head of the Environmental Fluid Mechanics and Water Resources Program; Jeremy Hill, Director of the Coastal Rivers Water Planning and Policy Center; and Joe Maltese, Chair of the Middle Chattahoochee Water Coalition.
