Earlier this year Dr. Helene Gayle became the CEO and President of Atlanta-based CARE. She brought a wealth of experience from her nearly 20 years as Director of the CDC's National Center for HIV, STD and TB Prevention and as a senior executive with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She joins us to talk about CARE's goals and challenges and her special focus on empowering the women of the world.

Next week on Georgia Weekly: Higher Education is a money-maker! In late September, ARCHE [the Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education] released a study showing that Metro Atlanta's colleges and universities have a $10.8 billion total economic impact and provide nearly 130,000 jobs in Georgia. Mike Gerber, President of ARCHE and Lisa Rossbacher, President of Southern Polytechnic State University will discuss the findings. Also next week: Hooray for video-games! Video game expert Dr. Ian Bogost in Georgia Tech's School of Literature, Communication and Culture, views the genre on a par with literature, as a positive educational exercise.
