HIV/AIDS IN GEORGIA – This year marks the 25th anniversary of the first diagnosed cases of AIDS. Twenty-five years on, HIV/AIDS continues to spread rapidly and to devastate much of the world. Georgia Weekly will focus on AIDS in our state: who is affected most, what new treatments are coming on line and what will happen if the disease continues to spread? We welcome three experts in the field: Dr. James Curran, Dean and Professor of Epidemiology of the Rollins School of Public Health and Co Director of the Emory Center for AIDS Research. Dr. Jeffrey Lennox, Professor of Medicine at Emory's School of Medicine and Principal Investigator at Emory's AIDS Clinical Testing Unit and Dr. David Malebranche, an Assistant Professor at Emory, who spends much of his times on the frontlines of the AIDS battle, treating patients. This episode of Georgia Weekly is part of a national PBS initiative on AIDS. On Tuesday, May 30 and Wednesday, May 31 from 9-11PM GPB will air a special Frontline series, The Age of AIDS, with a phone bank of experts in the GPB studios to answer viewer questions. Next on Georgia Weekly: Please tune in at 7PM on Tuesday, June 13 for an in-depth interview with Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor, who is running against Secretary of State, Cathy Cox in the July 18th primary to represent the Democratic Party in this year's gubernatorial race. |
