A report from the U.S. Capitol – It's an interesting year to be in Washington, D.C. After serving twelve years in the Georgia House, U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland [R] entered Congress in January 2005 and he's already ruffled a few feathers. He represents Georgia's 8th District, which stretches from the southern suburbs of metro Atlanta to Macon and Columbus. In Congress, Westmoreland serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure, Small Business and Government Reform committees.

Excellence in County Government – Spending your tax dollars wisely. Building better communities. County commissions across the state face big challenges every day. In the March issue of Georgia Trend several counties were recognized by the Association County Commissioners of Georgia for a variety of innovative programs. Two of the winners join us on Georgia Weekly: Commissioner Clarence Brown from Bartow County, where an environmental management program is making a difference, and Wendy Sims of Bryan County's Family Connections, an effective juvenile diversion program.

Next week: A GPB special presentation: Betty Siegel: A Conversation.
