Mary Dean Harvey
After a year with no leader, the Division of
Family and Children Services was taken over by Mary Dean Harvey in
September, 2005, making Harvey the fifth DFCS director since 1996. The
agency has been undergoing critical reforms to reduce high caseloads
that have hampered efforts to keep children safe and to investigate
allegations of abuse and neglect. Will Harvey succeed where her
predecessors have failed? She joins us to discuss her plans for the
agency.
Is Georgia's environment becoming better or worse?
In his enlightening and controversial book,
The Greening of Georgia, R. Harold Brown, Professor Emeritus of Crop
and Soil Sciences at UGA, argues that, despite industrial and
residential development and a population boom, our state became much
cleaner and healthier during the Twentieth Century. Brown joins us to
talk about his research.
Next week on Georgia Weekly ...
Wayne Clough, President of Georgia Tech since
1994, will join us for a progress report on his institution, including
the role it is playing in the Southern Innovation Initiative, designed
to keep the region in the forefront of American competitiveness. Also
on next week's program, we will discuss the state of marriage in
America with Randy Hicks, President of the Georgia Family Council and
Chief Justice Leah Sears.
