Michael F. Adams, President of UGA – The University of Georgia has become an educational powerhouse, with an ever-expanding number of undergraduates and research programs. UGA's President, Michael F. Adams, will join us for a progress report on the nation's oldest state-chartered university. Meet the author – Erskine Clarke – Erskine Clarke's new book "Dwelling Place: A Plantation Epic" has been critically acclaimed. Using thousands of letters written by the Jones family of Liberty County from 1805 to 1869, Clarke brings to life the suppressed history of the Jones slaves, whose lives were inseparably bound to those of their white owners. Clarke is the Professor of American religious history at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur. Next week on Georgia Weekly – Poverty in Georgia. Some parts of our state remain mired in poverty. Joe Whorton, Director of UGA's Initiative on Poverty and the Economy, will join to talk about the situation and possible remedies. In recognition of Heart Month, we will also welcome Dr. Nic Chronos of St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta and Dr. Gregory Harshfield, Director of the Georgia Prevention Institute at the Medical College of Georgia, to learn about some groundbreaking research into heart disease and treatment.
