Hog Hammock is a Gullah community where old timers speak geechee. Located on Sapelo Island, you can tour Hog Hammock and discover its rich African-American history that dates back over 200 years. Sapelo is one of the most pristine of the Georgia barrier islands. In addition to its human history documented by archaeological findings all the way back to the Paleo-Indians, it's a great place for birdwatchers to bring their binoculars. The island is reached by a ferry which departs from Darien.
