Field Trip: Fort King George State Historic Site
The first English establishment (in what was later to become the state of Georgia) was Fort King George, built in 1721 to oppose French expansion in America. You can now visit the fort, a museum, authentic blockhouse replica, and reconstructed earthworks. The museum contains a wealth of information on colonial life as well as native americans. Living history education is emphasized in the educational offerings.
