Field Trip: Chief Vann House State Historic Site

In happier days, Cherokee Chief Vann constructed this mansion, located near the Cherokee seat of government at New Echota. Many called it the "Showplace of the Cherokee Nation." Vann later became embroiled in the controversy to relocate the Cherokee, an event known as the "Trail of Tears." The Chief Vann house was a two?story brick mansion built in 1804 and the first brick home within the Cherokee Nation.
