Georgia's hills and valleys still bear the marks and keep the secrets of the people that walked these lands for thousands of years before the white man came. Vast and complex civilizations arose and then vanished in the woodlands of the southeastern United States.

State Historic Sites like Etowah Indian Mounds or New Echota, the capital of the Cherokee Nation, recognize the rich culture and heritage of these people. These are great places to visit and learn more about the past

Another way to learn about these native people... past, present and future, is to attend public pow wows and learn more about Georgia's native people and who they are today. The program also profiles native artists who specialize in poetry, music and dance.
