Video: Jefferson Davis Memorial Historic Park

On May 9, 1865, Confederate President Jefferson Davis and a few remaining staff members camped in this pine forest on their way West. At dawn, they were surrounded by two independent groups of Union cavalry who mistakenly fired on each other, killing two of their number. Davis was taken prisoner and held in Virginia for two years until released.
