It’s one of the most beautiful Civil War sites in Georgia. In 1864 Confederate soldiers fought with forces of Union General William T. Sherman. About 28-hundred northern and southern men died in the Battle of Resaca. When local resident Mary Green, saw these soldiers had no proper burial she convinced her father to donate a corner of his property for a cemetery. She raised money to give 440 southern soldiers a proper burial, a headstone, and an eternal resting place.
