Game of the Week - Baldwin at Carver-Columbus

The Week 4 matchup between these two powerful squads will serve as the last of four non-region warmups for both. The game will be played at Memorial Stadium in Columbus, which serves as Carver’s home facility.

Carver-Columbus is a state-title contender once again, and has the firepower on both offense and defense to earn a second state crown in three years. Offensively, the Tigers are led by dual-threat quarterback Devin Burns (Maryland commit) and junior sensation running back Isaiah Crowell. Carver cruised to a Week 2 victory over Tri-Cities, as Burns showed off his arm with an efficient 6-for-8 day with 131 yards before getting pulled in the second half; the Tigers held a 32-0 halftime advantage. The defensive line is a strength on this Carver team, as DEs Corey Crawford and Brandon Smith are major college prospects. The defense is still one of the state’s best even after the departure of LB Jarvis Jones (Southern Cal), CB Ryan Campbell (Ole Miss) and LB LeRon Furr (Oklahoma State).

Baldwin's sophomore quarterback Roshaun Milline is a young, talented signal caller who is becoming more of a leader with each game, while OL Jadarius Dean protects Milline and paves the way for RB Javontae Edwards. Baldwin managed a shocking 22-0 shutout victory over Carver, then the defending state champion, last year on its way to a perfect 10-0 regular season. The Braves will be looking for a similar upset victory this season with a defense that could be almost as good as last year’s (7.2 points allowed per game) and an offense that is boosted from a developing passing attack from Milline.
