It was a battle to the end, but the Camden County Wildcats were able to pull out a 21-14 victory over the Peachtree Ridge Lions and go on to win their second state title in six years.
It was a struggle for the Lions offensively, but they held a 7-0 advantage at the half. The Wildcats outgained the Lions in yards and held on to the ball longer, but running back Aundre' Johnson fumbled at midfield and that led to a Ronnie Smith 3-yard touchdown run. The Wildcats were able to answer back in a huge way as they scored 21 points in the third quarter. Two of the touchdowns came in the form of runs by Darryl Williams and the other was a Christian Milstead 80-plus yard touchdown pass to DeAngelo Smith.
Peachtree Ridge had an opportunity to tie the game after Milstead threw an interception to Brian Williams at the Lions' 1-yard line late in the fourth quarter, but Lions quarterback Nick Lombardo threw his second interception of the night to Camden linebacker Ty Booth on the Lions' final drive, icing the game for the Wildcats. Camden finishes the season at a perfect 15-0 while Peachtree Ridge ends its season with a 12-3 record.
