Join Lt. Governor Casey Cagle as we host the 2nd Annual, Be Healthy Georgia Day at the Capitol on Saturday, March 10, 2012. We are proud to partner with Atlanta Mayor, Kasim Reed and the Atlanta Track Club to put together an incredible family event for FREE to all!
The day will kick off in a fun and healthy way with the Atlanta Track Club (ATC) Kilometer Kids One Mile Fun Run at 9 a.m. The police escorted Kilometer Kids Fun Run for ages 7-12 is free to participants and features a fun course around the State Capitol Building and Atlanta City Hall.
In addition to all the great mascots racing in the NIKE+ Mascot Trot, we will have very special guests for the day. Guests include Sesame Street’s Elmo, Atlanta Falcon Ovie Mughelli, Atlanta Dream’s Lindsey Harding, Olympic Silver Medalist and Track & Field World Champion Kim Batten, Falcons Cheerleaders, and members from various college sports teams from Georgia State, Kennesaw State and many more!
Be Healthy Georgia Day Schedule
In addition to the Kilometer Kids One Mile Fun Run, the Be Healthy Georgia Day will feature all sorts of fun and healthy activities for the whole family. Check out below for a schedule of the day’s events:
8:00 a.m. – Registration / number pick-up for the Atlanta Track Club Kilometer Kids One Mile Fun Run will open while Kim Batten, ’96 Olympic Silver Medalist, and our friends at YMCA get the crowd going for pre-run/walk warm-ups.
9:00 a.m. – The Kilometer Kids One Mile Fun Run will begin promptly with a police escorted route around the State Capitol and the Atlanta City Hall grid.
9:15 a.m. – Following the run, everyone will enter into the Dole Family Fit City. At the Dole Family Fit City a DJ will keep the beat alive and families can interact with all types of sport activities with give-a-ways as well as chances to win tons of other prizes donated by the event’s partners!
9:15 – 9:45 a.m. – Post Run/Walk Cool Down Stretches by the Big Peach Running Co. and other special guests!
10:00 a.m. – Last but certainly not least, over 10 mascots will line up for the big NIKE+ Mascot Trot showdown at for top bragging rights. Will it be Hairy Dog? Freddie Falcon? Buzz? You will have to wait and see!
1:00 p.m. – Event Close
All volunteers receive training, free parking and a catered meal provided by Carole Parks Catering.
