Satellite Information

GPB's KU Band Signal is on the Satellite SES Americom AMC-3 (87 Degrees WL Transponder 14)

Downlink Frequency 11,985.250 MHZ

Polarity Vertical

L-Band Frequency 1235.250 MHZ

DSR 4200 IRD will need to enter L-band Frequency and Polarity.

For Sites with General Instruments IRD (4200 Series Models)

  • PeachStar Elementary Programming is on Channel 410
  • PeachStar Middle and High School Programming is on Channel 420
  • PeachStar Adult, Postsecondary and Staff Development Programming is on Channel 430
  • GPTV is on Channel 400

Equipment Needed at Sites to Receive GPB's Digital Signal

Satellite Dish – Site Requirements/Recommendations:

  • The site's satellite dish (Antenna) must be KU Band capable and the site must have the capability to point their dish to satellite AMC-3.
  • The satellite dish should be at least 1.8 meters in diameter with a solid surface with a minimum gain of 48 db @ Ku. (Segmented mesh dishes may not provide the site with acceptable reception quality.)
  • The Ku Band LNB should be rated 1.0 db or better.

Digital Receiver – Site Equipment Required:

GPB's signal is broadcast in the Digicipher II (DCII) format. Therefore each site must have an Integrated Receiver Decoder (IRD) capable of receiving and decoding a program signal delivered in this format. Any of the following IRD's will be acceptable:

General Instruments' DSR 4200 Series, DSR 4200v, DSR 4000, DSR 4400, and DSR 406.

Any of these models will work for GPB's programming. (The newer "v" model is preferable to the "c" model since the "c" model only works MCPC Carriers while the "v" model is variable and may be more useful to the site in the future for other purposes.)

IRD Authorization Note:

Sites outside Georgia, not currently able to receive GPB programming, will need to contact GPB Education at 1-888-501-8960 and provide the authorization number for your IRD. This is a 16-digit number stamped on the back of your IRD. GPB Education will then "map" your IRD into it's network of authorized receivers. Sites will then be able to receive programming. Once authorized, GPB Television will be on IRD Channel #400 and GPB Education will be on IRD Channels #410-430.

Site\Classroom Equipment Recommended for Interactive Programs such as Foreign Language Courses:

  • A Color Monitor
  • A VCR
  • A Speaker Telephone
  • A Private Telephone Line
