  • Procedures:
  • Discuss career explorations and why it is important to use several sources to gather information about careers.
  • Give students a list of ways to explore careers. (Career handbooks, Career web sites, job shadowing, etc.) Talk to students about exploring as much information as possible in order for them to learn the most they can about a career.
  • Discuss the importance of job shadowing and show the video clip about a job shadowing experience from Defying The Odds.

  • Assessment: Students must demonstrate or describe orally or in writing how to explore career choices using at least three different ways.
    Materials: Computers with Internet access and career handbooks
    Technology Connections:

    Students will access the Internet for career explorations and watch a

    streamed video clip from Defying The Odds that focuses on job shadowing.

    * This lesson shows an example of how to integrate technology into a lesson plan by using a streamed video clip from Defying the Odds. During the lesson on Career Exploration the teacher uses a streamed video clip to demonstrate a high school student engaged in job shadowing.
