Georgians from all over the state came to Georgia Public Broadcasting by the dozen last Saturday to share memories of, and memorabilia from, Rich’s department store. Our new digital first series, Rich’s Remembered, explores the history of the Atlanta landmark from the opening of the first store in 1867, to 2005 when the last store closed, and over 100 years of history in-between. You can watch the latest episode in the series below.

While some arrived with Rich’s merchandise and fond memories of weekend afternoons spent perusing the aisles, many former employees also attended to share stories of the dedication and camaraderie it took to keep Rich’s 25 locations up and running. There were even a few reunions between co-workers who hadn’t seen each other in decades.

Those looking for a taste of the past were not disappointed. Guests were treated to iconic Rich’s Magnolia Room treats including coconut cake cupcakes, mini chicken pot pies, chicken salad finger sandwiches and much more. Take a look at the slideshow below to see a few of those dishes and other photos from the event.

Many of those who attended the event will be featured, along with their Rich’s memorabilia, in future episodes of the series, so make sure to visit us on Instagram, the GPB Originals Facebook page, and on GPB.org to see the latest episodes of Rich’s Remembered.
