Based on the beloved books by Lucy Maude Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables follows the adventures of the imaginative and head strong red haired orphan Anne Shirley on Prince Edward Island after she is mistakenly adopted by brother and sister Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. The Cuthberts wanted to take in a boy to get help on their farm; they get an unexpected surprise when a girl is sent to them instead.

The miniseries that starred Canadian actress Megan Fellows aired in 1985 and featured actress Colleen Dewhurst as Marilla and actor Richard Farnsworth as Matthew.

In an interview about playing Anne, Follows described her character as the opposite of a victim.

A new movie aired this year on Thanksgiving Day where Martin Sheen headlined as Matthew and Sara Botsford played Marilla.
