You’ll remember him as the villainous Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but Adam Driver did not always play the bad guy on-screen. Instead, Driver was a U.S. Marine with the 1/1 Weapons Company at Camp Pendleton and acting helped him fall back into civilian life. He’s one of several speakers for the latest TED Talks: War And Peace that airs Monday, May 30th at 9 p.m.

Speakers From Many Backgrounds

Driver joins doctors, journalists, psychologists, and more as they look at how war has changed the world. Sebastian Junger, author of The Perfect Storm and correspondent for Vanity Fair and ABC News, covered the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team in Afghanistan. He’ll discuss his experiences, resulting book and documentary.

Dr. Samantha Nutt, founder of the organization War Child will speak about her work with children and families struggling through many major crises.

Additionally, activist Christianne Boudreau offers a unique perspective on war: her son’s conversion to radical Islam and his death while fighting for ISIS in Syria. She now helps others see the impact of recruitment organizations on young people.

Film And Music Help Bring About Peace

TED Talks: War And Peace will also feature short films and a musical performance by Rufus Wainwright. Bionic Soldier discusses the availability of technology for disabled soldiers and All Roads Point Home depicts the story of a woman returning home from war overseas who becomes involved in keeping the peace in Baltimore.
