The combination of Marietta quarterback Harrison Bailey and receiver Arik Bailey sparked the Blue Devils to a 17-9 win over Lowndes in the Class 7A championship game and delivered the school’s first state title since 1967.

The No. 6-ranked Blue Devils (13-2) led 17-0 at halftime and had to withstand a determined Lowndes comeback attempt. Marietta didn’t put the game away until Peter Warrick intercepted Jacurri Brown’s pass at the 2 and proceeded to run out the final 4:42.

Bailey, the Tennessee commit, completed 22 of 31 passes for 271 yards and withstood six sacks. Gilbert, who is headed to LSU, caught 11 passes for 146 yards. Ricky White caught five passes for 72 yards and Kimani Vidal caught fie passes for 34 yards and ran 15 times for 67 yards and two touchdowns.

No. 1-ranked Colquitt County (14-1) was led by Brown, who rushed 15 times for 37 yards and completed 12 of 22 passes for 76 yards and one touchdown. He was sacked twice and intercepted once. Ferringhetti Brown caught six passes for 48 yards and one touchdown.

Marietta scored on a pair of 2-yard runs by Vidal and a 26-yard field goal by Cooper Kipp.

Lowndes got on the board with a 27-yard Jose Palcios field goal and a 16-yard pass from Jacurri Brown to Ferringhetti Brown.
