Quanderious Powell hit the game-winning layup at the buzzer to give No. 1 Calhoun County a 69-67 win over No. 2 Treutlen in the Class A Public boys championship game.

With 8.8 seconds left, the Cougars drove the length of the court and Tykevious Curry passed to Powell, who drove to the basket with the go-ahead points. Treutlen was out of timeouts and could not get off a response.

Powell finished with six points for Calhoun County (32-0), which won its third state championship, its first since 2015 

Calhoun was led by Jahmad Wiley with 18 points, Curry with 16 points and Juwan Wiley with 13 points and five rebounds.

Treutlen (30-2) got 17 points and seven rebounds from James Byrd, 15 points and eight rebounds from Arkavias Lovett, 14 points and 11 rebounds from Kamron Jordan and 10 points from Tafarjae Jordan.

Both of Treutlen’s losses this season came against Calhoun County.
