Last weekend’s quarterfinal round of GHSA Prep Football playoffs were outstanding. Fans enjoyed Great efforts by all of the teams and now we are preparing for the final four matchups or the championship caliber semi-finals this weekend.

There were some outstanding individual performances last week that are noteworthy of mention before moving on to this week’s matchups. Junior running back J.D. King of the Fitzgerald High Purple Hurricanes put on quite a show at T.A. Wright Stadium in Savannah last Friday night when he rushed for 335 yards on 44 carries in a 54-28 win for the ‘Canes over defending Class AA champion Benedictine Military.

Grayson’s Cameron Brent rushed for 269 yards in a 35-28 win over Westlake and Colquitt County’s Quan Singletary had two interceptions in the Packers win over South Forsyth, 49-31. Colquitt County is now at twenty-eight consecutive wins over the past two seasons heading into this week’s game at Mill Creek.

Bainbridge running back Damien Pierce had a couple of long touchdown runs in the fourth quarter to keep the Bearcats unbeaten at 13-0, after an 18-17 win over St.Pius X in a Class AAAA elite eight game. Evans Hodges kicked a game-winning field goal from 31 yards out to lead Jefferson County into the Class AA semi-finals against Fitzgerald this week after the Warriors topped unbeaten Rabun County 31-28. 

This week’s semi-finals round of play promises to be one of the best in recent memory as all of the twenty-eight remaining teams have their eyes on the Championship trophy awaiting the winners in the Georgia Dome on December 11th and 12th.

Class AAAAAA has some powerhouse games on tap this week. Top-ranked Colquitt County takes to the road for the second straight week as the Packers travel to Hoschton to meet Mill Creek. Roswell travels to Loganville to meet Grayson in the other Class AAAAAA game.

In Class AAAAA its Allatoona meeting Northgate and in a rematch from the Region 3-AAAAA regular season, Ware County will travel to Brunswick to meet Glynn Academy. The Terrors won the regular season game 14-7.

Powerful Buford returns to the semi-finals again in 2015 after eliminating Thomson last week at the Brickyard in Thomson 49-7. The Wolves host Woodward Academy while two unbeaten teams, Bainbridge and Cartersville, both 13-0 on the year, have a showdown scheduled in Cartersville this Friday night.

Class AAA’s final four teams are Westminster at Cedar Grove and Blessed Trinity hosting defending AAA champion Calhoun.

In Class AA, Pace Academy is at Greater Atlanta Christian and Fitzgerald travels to Louisville to meet Jefferson County. In Class A Private its Prince Avenue Christian hosting Eagles Landing Christian and the other matchup finds Stratford Academy of Macon at Aquinas of Augusta.

In Class A Public, Commerce meets Clinch County in Homerville, and Irwin County plays at Emanuel County Institute in Twin City.
