I really can’t believe that this week is the final week of the regular season.  I guess when you are having fun time really flies, but has it actually been 3 months since we kicked off Football Fridays in Georgia on August 21st with the Lowndes at Roswell game?

I guess it has.  Since then we have seen some tremendous teams, some great competition, and some outstanding players.    And after this weekend, it will be on to the playoffs.

As we head into the second season, one thing that occurs to me is how many really good football teams there are this year.  When you look at Class AAAAAA you see that undefeated Colquitt County will play undefeated Camden County for the Region 1 championship.  How can it get better than that?  And there are other undefeated and outstanding teams in Class AAAAAA like Roswell, Mill Creek, Archer, McEachern, Walton, and Peachtree Ridge.   The road to the dome is going to be very interesting in Class AAAAAA.

In 5A, defending Champ Northside Warner Robins is cruising along at 9-0.  Mays, Stockbridge, Lanier, and Northgate are undefeated and other top teams include Stephenson, Jones County, Houston County, Coffee and Allatoona with just one loss.

In 4A, Cartersville is ranked number one and undefeated.  Woodward Academy is unbeaten and on a roll behind running back Elijah Holyfield.  Mary Persons is unbeaten as is Bainbridge and of course defending champ Buford is right there with an 8-1 record.

In 3A, Calhoun tops the polls with a 9-0 record.  Blessed Trinity, Central Carrollton, and Dodge County remain unbeaten.

In 2A. defending champ Benedictine leads the way, with Darlington undefeated at 9-0 and teams like GAC, Rabun County, Fitzgerald, and Wesleyan with one loss.

In 1A, Mount Paran Christian and Prince Avenue Christian sit atop the polls with lots of talented teams plotting to knock them out in the playoffs.

And those teams I just mentioned are the ones that have been solid from the start, but who knows if a team will get hot at the right time and ride that streak right to the title game.

So after this weekend, 192 teams will survive to make it to the post season. In the end, on December 11-12, the best teams will converge on the Georgia Dome where seven state champions will be crowned.

You can catch all the tackles and touchdowns, field goals and flee flickers,  kick offs and clutch catches only on GPB Sports as we bring you the 2015 GHSA Football Championships.  The second season is coming soon, and I can’t wait.
