As I look at the calendar I see that this is the second to last week of the regular GHSA football season.  My brain says, the playoffs are close at hand, but my heart says, “where did the season go?”  It seems like just last week that GPB Sports kicked off its fifth season of Football Fridays in Georgia with an August 21st game, Lowndes at Roswell.  Right now Lowndes is battling for a playoff spot in Region 1 6A,

while Roswell has turned into a dominant force, on top of its region, undefeated with an 8-0 record and ranked 3rd in the Class AAAAAA standings.  We have seen some of the top players in the state strut their stuff making fantastic passes, catches, tackles, punts, kicks, and runs.  Many of our broadcasts featured big rivalry games like Walton at Etowah, Creekside and Stephenson, Tucker vs M.L. King, North Gwinnett vs Norcross, North Cobb vs McEachern, Sandy Creek vs Woodward Academy, and this week  Archer vs Dacula.

GPB Sports also made its first trip to Moultrie, Georgia to televise one of the oldest rivalries in the deep south, the 95th meeting between Valdosta and Colquitt County.  Valdosta, of course, owners of twenty-three state titles and 6 mythical national titles, and the Colquitt County Packers who are the reigning 6A state champs and currently on a 23 game winning streak.  It was a great trip, a great game, and a great experience.

Next week GPB Sports will get ready for the playoffs by televising the Region 6  5A  cross over  game between the Mays Raiders and either Stephenson or Southwest Dekalb.  It is a game that will help decide the playoff seeding in that region, and it is very important.

And then on November 13th, its playoff time, the post season, its win and you stay in, lose and you go home.  GPB Sports will have a terrific playoff game for you for four weeks in a row, leading up to the GHSA Championships December 11 and 12 in the Georgia Dome.  There is no telling which teams will make the trip, on the Road to the Dome.  It could be teams that won last year and striving to repeat.

It could be teams that have never been to the Dome before.  It could be a team with a great pedigree of playoff prominence or it could be a first time finalist.  All I know is that it is going to be exciting, it’s going to be entertaining, it’s going to be exhilarating, and it is going to be a lot of fun.

So let’s enjoy the next 7 weeks as we get ready to crown 7 state champions in football for 2015!!!
