The next two weeks will be most interesting for two power-laden football Regions in the southern portion of the state of Georgia. Region 3-AAAAA and Region 2-A have been trading key wins and losses all season long and now heading into this week’s schedule there are still several teams in each of those regions capable of claiming the Region title.

In Region 3-AAAAA, considered by many to be one of the toughest in the state in Class AAAAA, there’s a three-way tie for first place heading into this week’s action. Coffee, South Effingham and Glynn Academy all have 5-1 Region records. Overall, Coffee is 7-1, South Effingham is 7-1 and Glynn Academy is 6-2 on the season.

As is the case with all Regions from Class AA through Class AAAAAA, four teams will make the statewide playoffs. In addition to the three aforementioned powerhouse teams in the Region 3-AAAAA, there is also Effingham County, 6-3 on the year with a game remaining on November 6th with Statesboro, and perennial power Ware County, 6-2, who will travel to South Effingham this week for yet another key Region battle. The Gators are still in the fight for one of those playoff four berths. Heading into this week’s games there are five very good football teams in Region 3-AAAAA which are playing for four spots in the playoffs which begin on November 13th.

In the Region of doom, as Region 2-A is known in the southern portion of the state, Clinch County, Turner County, Charlton County and Irwin County are all tied atop the Region 2-A standings with 4-1 Region marks heading into this week’s games. Clinch County and Turner County are both 7-1 on the season while Charlton is 6-1. Irwin County, last year’s runner up to Class A Public champion Hawkinsville is 5-2-1 on the season.

The Class A power rankings may well save all four teams for the Class A playoffs when the Region 2-A dust settles in two weeks at the end of the regular season. All four teams are in the top sixteen teams in this week’s Class A power rankings.

To really complicate matters, Charlton County travels to Homerville to meet Clinch County this week in a key Region matchup, while Turner County plays Wilcox County before yet another Region 2-A showdown, the Rebels meeting Irwin County on November 6th. Irwin County meets Atkinson County in another Region 2-A game this week.

In other top games around the state this weekend, in Region 1-AAAAAA, top-ranked Colquitt County, 8-0 hosts Tift County, 5-3 and unbeaten Camden County, 8-0, travels to Leesburg to meet Lee County, 6-2.

In Class AAA, Jefferson, 8-0, is at Oconee County, 6-2. In Class AA, Greater Atlanta Christian, 7-1 is at Lovett, 5-4. In Class A, Lincoln County, 8-0 meets Aquinas, 7-1 in a battle for the top spot in Region 7-A.
