The high school football season is right around the corner and we are going to visit with some of the Atlanta Public School head coaches. Last year the Mays Raiders had an outstanding season winning 12 games and losing just 3 and making it all the way to the Class 5A state championship game in the Georgia Dome on GPB Sports. Coach Corey Jarvis is looking to keep that kind of winning spirit going in 2015

The Grady Knights won a state title back in 1953 and are coming off a 5-5 season. Coach Earthwind Moreland is looking to improve on that record and make some noise in the post-season.

The North Atlanta Warriors have a new head coach this year. Jeremy Gainor is now at the controls and has been very impressed with the hard work his players have put in during the summer. The program has won just 3 games in the last three years, but the coach and players are determined to turn things around.

The Carver High School Panthers were on the prowl last year winning 8 games while losing just 3 and advancing to the playoffs. Coach Darren Myles has done an outstanding year as he heads into his 11th season. I really enjoyed Coach Myles talking about his players ACT/SAT competition.

The B.E.S.T Academy Eagles are coming off a 5-5 season, a season which saw the Eagles play a very demanding schedule. This year the opposition will be challenging for coach Joshua Moore and his players.

The South Atlanta Hornets are coming off a 2-8 season. And while the coaches and players were obviously looking for more wins, Defensive Coordinator Gus Johnson says the team competed on every play of every game and that kind of effort will pay off down the line and head coach Kevin Hill is looking forward to the upcoming season.

South Atlanta kicks off the season on August 21st against Campbell. One of the great stories from the 2014 high school football season, was that the Jackson High School Jaguars made the playoffs for the first time in 28 years. That makes it the first time in school history.

Coach Eric Williams and his Jaguars won 7 games while losing just 4 and that taste of making the playoffs, of advancing to the postseason, will drive these players this year as they strive to return to the playoffs in 2015.

The Washington Bulldogs have won 4 state titles in football. Last year the Bulldogs went 4-6.

This year there is a new head coach in Derek Avery who says you will see the wing-T formation in action this year.

The Douglass Astros will be looking to improve on last year’s 2-8 record. Assistant coach Wallace Turner says this year’s team will be a lot more experienced and will come in with a terrific attitude.

As we continue our look at the Atlanta Public Schools football teams we check in with the Therrell Panthers. Coach Dominic Calloway is in his third season as head coach and returns to a team with just 3 seniors, but still a team that has 6 offensive and 8 defensive starters returning.

Coach Lester Caldwell will lead the Kipp Atlanta Collegiate Warriors onto the grid-iron for the second straight year. The Warriors are a Class 2A program with a very interesting beginning.
