The Roswell Hornets boy’s lacrosse team is having another outstanding season following winning the 2014 GHSA state title last year under Coach Alex Chrzanowski. This year, with an incredible nineteen seniors returning, the hopes and expectations are sky high once again. The Hornets have posted an 18-2 record thus far and have reached the Final Four of the GHSA Lacrosse Championships for the third straight season. Among those nineteen seniors who have formed the foundation of this year’s team, Andrew Thomas has led the way scoring 70 goals and dishing out 33 assists. Preston Tibbett has logged 59 goals with 36 assists, and Garrett Blake has tallied 45 goals with 37 assists. Effective In goal has been Alex Lynch. In the first round of the playoffs, the defending 6A Champ Hornets knocked off the defending 5A state champion Northview Titans 15-5 in this year’s 6A playoffs. In the second round, the Hornets knocked off Mill Creek, 16-9 As the championships wrap up, six seniors will begin really looking forward to playing at the next level, as Will Beecham heads to Mercer, Garrett Blake moves on to Young Harris College, Preston Tippett takes on Air Force, Tanner Schneider leaves for Birmingham Southern, Andrew Thomas makes his way to Lynchburg, and Alex Lynch moves on to play for MIT. Coach Chrzanowski says the keys to this year’s success has been team defense. "It’s come together and played very well all season long and our offense has learned to be patient.” I asked the coach what it would mean to win back-to-back titles at Roswell. “It would be like a dream come true. You hope for one in your coaching career, two is kind of unthinkable. I think it is easier to climb up the mountain, than stay on top, other teams are coming after you, but this is an experienced team and we will do our best," Coach Chrzanowski explained. Next up, the Hornets take on The Etowah Eagles in a 7pm semifinalson May 13th at Ray Manus Stadium. A "W" this evening would be one that could give the Hornets a shot at back-to-back state titles.
