And, so now, we’re here…

It’s hard to believe that we’re at this point in the season…

We started at 405 teams and we’re now down to 10. It’s the final five games to determine the state champs for 2011 on the #greatGPB.

As we put a big bow on this season, I know that Roswell has been a surprise and that south Georgia has surprised again. But I’d like to ask what you’ll take with you from this season in general…

Mailbox responses get in the last football column of the year…

As always, these five thoughts are in no particular order… and just as I write them…

First thing I know… how ‘bout how Tucker got out of Quad-A…???
Now the Tigers get their chance at their first title since 2008 against Lovejoy, but they went through Northside to get there…

A crest-fallen Ben and Frank, both friends of GPB, give you the story…

Second thing I know… having followed both Grayson and Walton this year in 5A, it should be a heavyweight battle…

Walton survived Lassiter again, but it took Grayson almost three-and-a-half hours to get the win over Colquitt County in our “Football Fridays in Georgia” game of the week…

Here’s how Schuessler and Lindquist sent the Rams to game 15…
((HT: GPB))

Third thing I know… Buford is this/close to setting history, but they had to get through Carver-Columbus to do it. The Columbia blue was able to make Buford trail in a game for the first time since, well, the season opener in 2010 before the Wolves put the pedal down in the second half to advance to their fifth final in a row.

If they win, they break West Rome’s record for consecutive titles- which they currently share with four…

Friend of GPB, Dave Platta, has the story- both good and bad for Carver…
((HT: WTVM-TV))

Fourth thing I know… Savannah Christian is poised to give the city of Savannah their first-ever title if they can get through a tough Landmark Christian team. The Red Raiders lost to Wilcox two years ago and to Clinch County last season, both times in the fourth quarter… can Nardo Govan give it to them…???

Here’s how Donald Chumley’s team got to the Georgia Dome- beating Prince Avenue Christian… GPB alum, “The Big Guy” Frank Sulkowski, has the highlights…
((HT: The Coastal Source))

Fifth thing I know… blatant plug alert…

Five games, 32 hours, and a bunch of production people from both GPB and Turner Productions putting together our version of the game at the end of the year- five times in a row over two days…

Starting Friday afternoon at 4PM, it’s the evens and the odds on Saturday starting at 1PM

Right here with Gil, Dave, Trey, Jackie, Lindsey, Niki, Mark, Tim, Tommy, Bob, Fletcher, Zach, and myself (or “moi,” as Gil says) on the #greatGPB

We’ll have some new wrinkles, both on the air and in our social media elements on gpb.org- so watch on TV, the web, download our iPhone app- just watch…

And we’ll have a wrap party next week…

Play it safe, everybody… I’ll see you at the Dome…
