Remember the lesson that Chief Meteorologist Chrissy Warrilow tried to teach me last week...???

So much for my faith in computers..

Tried to do this in one take, and now, I'm on take four...

Maybe this time will be the one where I can get this done before the error messages show up in the computer window...

All I know is... I'm still not a fan of these new-fangled things...

I guess, including that previous sentence, that means there are six things I know this week...

What has surprised you this week...??? That's our opening theme...

Let me know and the best answers in the mailbag get into next week's writing...

First thing I know... Region 1-5A is in the blender...

Two weeks ago, Valdosta scores 14 points in the last 48 seconds to take the "Winnersville Classic" from Lowndes at Martin Stadium. Last Friday, Coffee remained in a tie for first place after beating Valdosta for only the sixth time in their 27 meetings.

WALB-TV's Robert Hydrick has the highlights of the Coffee win ((and a lot of the rest of South Georgia stuff)) below...
The Coffee game is at the 4:30 mark...

Get this: Doesn't matter how the Trojans do this week against Lowndes, they can win the region championship with a victory against Colquitt County next Friday.

Lowndes suffered its worst defeat since a 43-3 loss to Lovejoy in the first round of the 2002 playoffs in the 34-7 loss to Colquitt on gpb.org/sports. Colquitt had not won in the series since 1999, when Lowndes went on to win the state championship. Mark Harmon is big on numerology and circular story-telling...

How's that one for you, Mark...

Here's the end of the Colquitt-Lowndes game...

A nice touch by EP Sean Bond in the post-game show when Rachel Daniels got to hook up with former Tift coach Roy McWilliams. Coach Roy was part of the Brodie staffs of the past that got a state title to Tifton, and he's a south Georgia fountain of information and stories... I know Rachel had a good time... and Sean tells me he was howling back in the truck.

Second thing... Single-A this week is another wall-to-wall run...

Top-ranked Savannah Christian has Calvary Day- both are 7-0... the red and black took on Metter last week, winning 42-8
GPB alum "The Big Guy" Frank Sulkowski and Allen Kinzly have the highlights about the 2:30 mark...
As an added bonus, we get the Camden County-Groves game from Region 3-5A off the top...
((HT: TheCoastalSource.com))

Elsewhere, 3rd-ranked Lincoln County hosts 6-1 Aquinas, 6th-ranked Charlton gets 6-1 Bacon County the week before Bacon gets Wilcox, and 5th-ranked Marion County goes to 6-1 Greenville...

Got all that...??? There's a test later on...

Third thing I know... It's another week to reflect on higher scoring numbers...

Two weeks ago, we told you about Glascock County head coach Chris Kelley and the Panthers 82-point output against North Cobb Christian 82-48. And that was only good enough for the 19th-highest scoring total in Georgia high school history. This past week, Eric Parker and the Burke County Bears went two points more with an 84-point output against Cross Creek.

Merissa Lynn and John Hart show how it went down, thanks to our friends at WJBF-TV in Augusta... around the 4:30 mark…

Fourth thing I know… what went down at the Hancock Central-Warren County game…??? Disgusting, and I imagine even more so when we get to the bottom of it all…

Chad Mills has the early story…
((HT: WRDW-TV))

I know Coach Daniel and for him, his family and friends, and the Warrenton community to have to go through this ((along with everyone in Sparta as well)), is flat-out sad.

From Wayne Staats of the Augusta Chronicle…

Warren County District Superintendent Carole Jean Carey said a Warren County Board of Education attorney has stepped in and prepared a letter on behalf of the board, the mayor, state Sen. Bill Jackson and herself to send to officials who can ask the GBI to step in, including the Superior Court judge with jurisdiction. John Bankhead of the GBI confirmed Tuesday his agency isn’t yet involved.

Investigator Ricky Brown of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department said his agency is looking into the case and the interview process isn’t completed.

He said possible charges could be battery or aggravated assault, if there’s “enough evidence to pursue.”

GHSA Executive Director Dr. Ralph Swearngin is waiting for reports from both sides before making any kind of decision and Superintendent Carey says she’s not going to be playing Hancock in any sport any time soon…

Fifth thing I know… blatant promo time…

GPB, on the TV side, gets East Coweta and Stephenson over at Memorial Stadium- actually, it’s Hallford Stadium now. I grew up with it as “Memorial.” East Coweta has to rebound after a loss to Westlake to stay in step with Coach Gartrell and the Jags.

Pregame is a little before 8PM…

On the web side, it’s the first visit to Paulding County as the Raiders and John Reid host Pope. The Silver and Black are a juggernaut at home and the Greyhounds are in a for an interesting night…

Catch up with them a little before 7:30…
