In a society where many cities and schools are losing at-risk students to despair and little hope, Destiny Achievers Academy of Excellence (DAAOE) is winning the battle. Accordingly, to celebrate the achievement of their students and community partners, a year of success will culminate on May 19, 2017, with its first annual Overcomers Awards Gala

As a part of DAAOE Awards Gala, Hank Johnson, U.S. Representative, Georgia’s 4th Congressional District; and Larry Johnson, Commissioner, DeKalb County District 3, will be on hand. Recipients of this year’s DAAOE Award of Excellence include five students who have excelled in a variety of categories. Additionally, community partners making a difference in the lives of students will be recognized.

DAAOE is a non-traditional high school serving students who are emancipated, single parents, courtinvolved, or otherwise disadvantaged. One of only three schools in the State of Georgia meeting the needs of this extremely challenged segment of students, DAAOE boasts an impressive 75% graduation rate and takes great pride in providing resources and services beyond the classroom. This dynamic celebration features nationally acclaimed TV Judge Glenda Hatchett of The Hatchett Firm, who will deliver a powerful keynote address on the importance of self-pride and overcoming obstacles for greatness.

Recently featured in the Atlanta Daily World Newspaper for their unique approach, DAAOE Principal Dr. Kelvin Griffin said, “We facilitate the needs of some of Georgia’s most challenged students, so we strive to understand the factors outside our school that affect student success in the classroom. Our Gala is our largest annual fundraiser to help us meet the needs that extend beyond the classroom, so we urge your support.” To purchase tickets, pledge support, or become a sponsor of the DAAOE Gala visit www.daaoe.org or call 404.328-0898 for more information.
