Roots Up Gallery Opens "Country/No Country": Art Exploring Place and Displacement

Encaustic work by Christine Sajecki.

Roots Up Gallery in downtown Savannah will host the opening of its latest exhibit, ‘Country/No Country’ on Friday, March 24, from 5:30 until 8 p.m.  Francis Allen, co-founder of Roots Up which shows and sells outsider art, says this show features work by former Savannah resident, artist Christine Sajecki, that explores themes of place and displacement.

“This show will be showcasing her abilities in encaustic work,” Allen explained. “Encaustic is a medium that combines beeswax with damar resin and pigments, so you’re literally painting with wax.  Encaustic means to burn or melt.”

The exhibit will continue through April 8. Find details at RootsUpGallery.com.
