Beyond the Practice Room

Beyond the Practice Room follows aspiring pianists between the ages of 14 and 18 as they prepare for the prestigious New York Piano Competition. During the week, cameras capture participants meeting their fellow performers and overcoming obstacles like nosebleeds and misbehaving dress straps. Each teen struggles to maintain the poise and stamina required to perform their repertoire before judges, peers and the public. A distinguished panel of concert pianists, each with a fascinating story to tell, comprises the jury. Beyond the Practice Room is the sequel to Speaking With Music (distributed by APT Exchange), which documented the inaugural year of the New York Piano Competition.
