Jane's guests for this segment are Ruth Pinson, a veteran educator from the Floyd County school system and Wheda Acolatse, a fourth year teacher from the Atlanta City Schools. Ruth left teaching for a short period of time when raising her children. Wheda came to teaching through the TAPP program, as a second career. Both of these educators discuss what they see as the causes of teacher attrition and the insights they gained as participants in a statewide survey of teachers in 2006 (QLTE).
The three guests with Jane on this segment are Wanda Barrs, Chairperson for the Georgia Board of Education, Dr. Cyndy Stephens, Director of the Division for Educator Recruitment for the Georgia Professional Standards Commission and Kelly C. Henson, Superintendent of the Floyd County Schools. The conversation focuses on the challenges of keeping good teachers in the classroom and some of the strategies in place in Georgia schools to meet that challenge.
