Robert Olive
Assistant General Manager

Bob Olive - former senior director of major projects at the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and former director of programming and program administration at WVIZ/Cleveland - joined GPB as its Director of Broadcast Services in May, 2001.

As senior director for major projects in PBS's programming division, Olive was responsible for the system's national coverage of the campaign and election in 2000. As part of that initiative, he obtained and administered a $2 million grant for local station production from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). Olive also headed a PBS effort to help local stations improve their production capability, with an eye toward national distribution.

He began his 25-year career in broadcasting at WVIZ/Cleveland as a station announcer and soon moved up to Public Affairs Director. He left public broadcasting for a stint in commercial television news but returned to WVIZ as director of programming in 1987. He has been a public broadcasting programming executive ever since, moving from WVIZ to PBS two years ago. Olive's list of professional achievements is lengthy, including Emmy Awards, PBS Advertising and Promotion Awards, Corporation for Public Broadcasting Awards, and the Programmer of the Year Award from the Public Television Programmers Association.

As Director of Broadcast Services, Olive will direct the broadcast operations and manage the overall staff responsibilities of on-air television programming efforts, including program evaluation and acquisition, scheduling, on-air traffic operations, program content library, audience research and analysis, on-air image/brand management and creation, scheduling and airing of all interstitial messages.

All volunteers receive training, free parking and a catered meal provided by Carole Parks Catering.
